A print shop operator in Wayne Community College in Goldsboro, North Carolina has been shot dead after a gun man walked into a building on the campus, yesterday, Monday.
According to CNN, the gun man remained at large even as the campus has been placed on lockdown and all buildings have been cleared.
Speaking on the incident, Maj. Tom Effler of the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said the shooting wasn't a "random situation" but an "isolated situation".
The suspected gunman, identified by law enforcement as 20-year-old Kenneth Morgan Stancil III, reportedly worked at one time for the victim, Ron Lane, and is a former student at the school. Lane is also reportedly a longtime employee of the school.
The Goldsboro Police Department has described Stancil as "armed and dangerous."
Meanwhile school President Kay Albertson
has described the deceased as a "valued employee", saying the day was a
sad one for "Wayne Community College and this close family and
community"
She also praised the "rapid response from the city, the county, the state and the federal first responders," who are "working diligently to apprehend the suspect."
Despite earlier reports, the victim was not killed inside the library as speculated.
At just 2 years old, figures from fall 2013 shows the student population as 3,837, according to the, National Center for Education Statistics,
with slightly more than half the students part-time. While crime
statistics from the center's website shows no killings, assaults,
robberies or motor vehicle thefts between 2011 and 2013.
